Kelemen Hunor warns against tax increases in 2027
UDMR President Kelemen Hunor has stated that his party will not support any increases in taxes or duties in 2027, describing such a move as a “suicidal decision.” He argued that the population and the economic environment have reached their fiscal limit and cannot sustain further burdens.
Hunor specifically criticized potential increases in local taxes and opposed shifting property tax calculations to market values, noting that the administration is unprepared for such a mechanism. Instead, he urged the government, led by Luca Niculescu, to reduce public spending and prioritize investments.
Regarding social welfare, Hunor supported the indexation of pensions and public sector salaries based on 2025 inflation rates, though he noted that the necessary funds will only be confirmed once the 2027 budget project is presented. He also commented on the political stability of the Niculescu government, suggesting that without support from parties like AUR, the current administration may remain in power until 2028 despite political challenges.
