Rare Golden Artifacts Unearthed in Pest County, Hungary

In early summer 2026, volunteer Tóth Károly of the Community Archaeology Association noticed Conquest‑period objects at the border of a settlement in Pest county where no prior archaeological work had been done. Deep forestry ploughing exposed a collection that includes several gold bracelets, items that are extremely rare for the era. Museum specialists from the Ferenczy Museum Center, together with archaeologists from the National Museum’s Archaeology Institute and laboratory staff, carried out a verification walk‑over and began systematic excavation of the site. The artifacts are of exceptionally high craftsmanship and are thought to have belonged to the elite of the period. Excavation will continue, with a larger dig planned for the autumn, while the exact location of the settlement is being kept confidential to protect it from illegal treasure hunting. Ongoing analysis of the finds is underway.
