Rare Harper Lee first edition found in London Oxfam shop

A rare first edition of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’, has been discovered in an Oxfam charity shop in London. The book was found in a donation of American books at the Portobello Road branch in West London.

Shop manager Olivia Haysman-Walker noted that the item could have easily been overlooked due to the volume of books in the donation. While the dust jacket showed signs of age and wear around the edges, the internal pages remained in remarkably good condition. The discovery coincides with Oxfam’s ‘Second Hand September’ campaign, which promotes the purchase of used goods.

The British Library has acquired the copy, and it will be preserved as part of the national collection.
