Rare Suffragette Christmas card discovered in Flintshire
A rare Suffragette Christmas card dating from approximately 1910 has been discovered at a vintage roadshow in Mold, Flintshire. The artifact, which originated during the height of the campaign for women's voting rights, has been valued at £2,500 by the antique shop WeBuyVintage.
Produced by organizations such as the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU), these cards served as political campaigning tools designed to raise funds and maintain movement visibility during the holiday season. Antiques specialist Matt Case noted that surviving examples are “exceptionally scarce,” particularly those in good condition, as they were originally intended to be seasonal and disposable.
The cards typically featured the WSPU colors of purple, white, and green, often incorporating political slogans alongside traditional seasonal imagery. Such items are considered significant historical artifacts, with examples held in the permanent collections of institutions like the London Museum.
