Rare two-euro coins can reach high values for collectors
Certain rare two-euro coins can command high prices among collectors due to limited editions or manufacturing errors. A notable example is a 2007 commemorative coin issued by Monaco to mark the 25th anniversary of the death of Princess Grace Kelly. Only 20,001 specimens were minted, and its market value is estimated at approximately 3,100 euros, depending on condition. Because this specific coin was intended for collectors rather than general circulation, it is unlikely to be found in everyday use.
In addition to commemorative issues, minting errors also drive value. One such error is known as the “egg in the eye” (jaje na oko), where the central part of the coin is misaligned within the outer ring, causing the metals to overlap. These error coins can be valued at around 100 euros. Other valuable errors include coins with significantly rotated sides, which can reach 200 euros, and those struck on incorrect metal blanks, which may be worth up to 650 euros.
