Rare yellow mountain rose blooms again in Giresun's Alucra district, picking fined 80,000 lira

The endemic "yellow mountain rose" (Sarı Dağ Gülü) has flowered again in the high‑altitude pastures of Alucra, Giresun province, Turkey, after the snow melt. The plant, thought lost for decades, was rediscovered in 2017 and is now monitored under a species action plan.

Authorities warn that removing or damaging the plant is prohibited under Environmental Law No. 2872 and carries a fine of 80,465 Turkish lira. Visitors are urged to photograph the flowers and leave them in place. The species typically survives 14‑20 days and is found in patches of 50‑100 roots.
