Rari Nantes Florentia faces financial crisis due to rising energy costs

Rari Nantes Florentia, a historic sports club in Florence, has issued an urgent appeal for institutional intervention to combat a severe economic crisis. Club president Andrea Pieri warned that skyrocketing energy costs—with electricity prices up 91.9% and methane gas exceeding 125%—threaten the sustainability of the organization's activities.

The financial strain puts at risk the management of seven municipal swimming facilities, potentially leading to staff cuts, reduced competitive activities, or the closure of certain sites. These facilities serve between 25,000 and 30,000 citizens annually, providing essential services including swimming lessons for children, programs for the elderly, and specialized activities for people with disabilities.

In response to the crisis, the Fondazione CR Firenze has approved financial support to protect social and therapeutic programs. The foundation has committed an initial 50,000 euros as part of a three-year plan exceeding 150,000 euros. This funding will cover registration costs for vulnerable groups, including individuals with autism, post-operative rehabilitation for women, and children in fragile social or economic conditions, ensuring these services remain accessible despite the club's operational difficulties.
