Rasheed Rahman jailed for life for London park murder

Rasheed Rahman, a 19-year-old Sudanese national, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of 55-year-old Mark Carroll. The attack occurred on April 10, 2024, in St Martin’s Gardens, Camden, when Rahman stabbed Mr. Carroll in the back with a kitchen knife during a random, unprovoked encounter.

Rahman had been released on police bail on two separate occasions prior to the killing, despite having been involved in a previous stabbing in east London. The Metropolitan Police has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Rahman’s release on bail and whether police contact could have prevented the murder.

At Wood Green Crown Court, Judge Dodd sentenced Rahman to a minimum term of 24 years and 59 days, describing the act as a ‘shocking and cowardly attack’ against an unsuspecting member of the public.
