Rashida Tlaib labels Michael Brown's death a murder

On the 12th anniversary of Michael Brown’s death in Ferguson, Missouri, Representative Rashida Tlaib stated that Brown “was murdered by a police officer.” Tlaib used the occasion to advocate for justice and an end to police violence.

Critics have challenged this characterization, noting that a Department of Justice investigation concluded there was no evidence to support federal civil rights charges against Officer Darren Wilson. The investigation, which included forensic and ballistic evidence as well as over 100 eyewitness interviews, found that the evidence did not establish that Wilson’s use of deadly force was objectively unreasonable.
