A major controversy is unfolding within the Portugal national football team following Cristiano Ronaldo's abrupt departure from the squad. The tension stems from a disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus, who had benched the star forward for consecutive matches. Ronaldo has stated he will reveal the reasons for his exit at a later time.

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) is attempting to mediate an emergency meeting between Ronaldo and Jesus to resolve the conflict. FPF President Pedro Proensa has defended Ronaldo as a national icon, while Jesus has characterized the incident as a misunderstanding and indicated that the door remains open for the player's return.

The situation has escalated through social media, with Ronaldo liking a video by Felipe Melo that criticized the treatment of Ronaldo compared to Lionel Messi. Additionally, Georgina Rodriguez briefly shared a post containing fabricated quotes attributed to Sir Alex Ferguson criticizing Jesus before deleting it. Amidst the tension, teammates like Bruno Fernandes have called for national unity, and supporters in Lisbon have displayed AI-generated billboards in solidarity with Ronaldo.
