Toronto Maple Leafs face significant injury setbacks

The Toronto Maple Leafs are dealing with multiple injuries to key players. Winger Kirill Marchenko sustained a lower-body injury during a game against the Calgary Flames after a collision with Yegor Sharangovich, forcing him to leave the ice in discomfort. Marchenko has been a high producer for Toronto, recording 14 points in 13 games.

Defenseman Chris Tanev is making progress toward a return after missing seven games with an upper-body injury; he recently participated in a full team skate wearing a non-contact jersey. Other players currently sidelined or recovering include John Tavares, who is skating individually following a collision, and Dakota Joshua, who is expected to be recalled from the AHL shortly. Max Domi remains out indefinitely due to complications from offseason back surgery.

In response to these roster challenges, Maple Leafs General Manager John Chayka indicated he is open to making in-season trades, potentially for a defenseman, to improve the team's defensive depth.
