Raïssa Malu calls for concrete educational reforms in DRC

Raïssa Malu, the Minister of State for National Education and New Citizenship, has called on provincial authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to implement concrete educational reforms ahead of the 2026-2027 school year. Following a conference of provincial education ministers in Kinshasa, Malu emphasized the need for effective governance to ensure a smooth start to the school year on September 1, 2026.

The conference resulted in 24 specific recommendations aimed at guiding the education sector. Key priorities include improving learning quality, strengthening pedagogical supervision, digitalizing education, developing technical training sectors, and consolidating school canteen programs.

Discussions also addressed critical administrative and social challenges, such as teacher salaries, assignments, infrastructure, and the cleaning of personnel files. Additionally, officials addressed the need for educational continuity in regions impacted by conflict, population displacement, and the Ebola epidemic. Malu stressed that these recommendations must be transformed into measurable actions and results within schools, aligned with the 2024-2029 five-year plan.
