Rassemblement National leaders demand resignation of Constitutional Council President

Leaders of the Rassemblement National (RN) are calling for the resignation of Richard Ferrand, President of the Constitutional Council, following his comments regarding constitutional revision procedures.

In a podcast, Ferrand argued that using Article 11 to revise the Constitution is not possible, asserting that such changes must follow the procedure outlined in Article 89, which requires approval by both the National Assembly and the Senate. This contradicts the RN's proposal to use referendums to implement key policies, such as national preference provisions, without parliamentary mediation.

Marine Le Pen, speaking from Brussels, demanded Ferrand's departure, accusing him of violating the obligation of neutrality by commenting on matters not yet submitted to the institution. Similarly, Jordan Bardella criticized Ferrand from Madrid, labeling him a ‘socialist clan leader’ and accusing him of failing his duty of reserve. Bardella maintains that the French people should have the power to decide directly on major institutional orientations to bypass parliamentary deadlocks.
