Rassemblement National mayors face criticism over local governance

Political tensions are rising in France regarding the conduct of Rassemblement National (RN) officials in local municipalities. In Cagnes-sur-Mer, Mayor Bryan Masson has faced criticism for labeling the Ligue des droits de l’Homme (LDH) as a ‘Ligue des droits des délinquants’ after the organization sought legal recourse to contest municipal decisions.

Reports from other RN-led municipalities, such as Carcassonne, suggest a pattern of restricting political opposition. In Carcassonne, Mayor Christophe Barthès reportedly silenced opposition members during a municipal council meeting by cutting their microphones when they attempted to raise questions regarding local police conduct.
