Rassemblement National to lead French National Assembly agenda

The Rassemblement National (RN) is set to control the agenda of the French National Assembly during its annual parliamentary niche day. The far-right party intends to present several non-binding resolutions designed to challenge political opponents on popular issues.

Key proposals include a resolution to ensure continuous access to drinking water in overseas territories, presented by deputy Anchya Bamana, and a proposal to induct several historical figures into the Panthéon, including feminist pioneer Olympe de Gouges, Abbé de l’Épée, and Zéna M’Déré. Critics have characterized the attempt to champion Olympe de Gouges as an effort to co-opt feminist values as part of the party's 'de-demonization' strategy.

Jean-Philippe Tanguy, deputy and spokesperson for the RN, noted that opponents may find it difficult to reject certain measures. This parliamentary session follows recent controversies involving the party, including allegations regarding antisemitic writings attributed to Jordan Bardella, which he has denied.
