Rathenow rail connection faces 14-month closure

The RE4 regional train line between Wustermark, Rathenow, and Stendal will face a significantly longer closure than originally planned. While Deutsche Bahn initially announced a two-month suspension, the section is now expected to remain closed until December 2027.

Local officials and commuters in the Havelland region have expressed outrage over the 14-month disruption. District Administrator Roger Lewandowski described the news as a shock, stating the region would be effectively disconnected from the rail network. Rathenow Mayor Jörg Zietemann also criticized the decision, noting the heavy burden on commuters and the impact on businesses relying on connections to Berlin and Saxony-Anhalt. Passengers will be required to use replacement bus services during the extended closure.
