Ratingen CDU seeks restoration of fresh water for Wallgraben

The CDU faction in Ratingen is advocating for the restoration of fresh water supply to the Wallgraben, a central green space located between the Arkadenhof and the Dickem Turm. For several years, the area has suffered from receding water levels, algae growth, and the formation of brackish water during summer months due to a lack of fresh water flow.

The issue stems from the decommissioning of a water-kinetic sculpture, known locally as the ‘water wheel’, in 2017. Previous attempts to restore the flow were halted by a leak that caused water to enter an underground parking garage. Following the recent renovation of the garage and a change in property ownership at the Arkadenhof, the CDU is proposing a joint review with the landowner to reactivate the fountain and ensure a regulated fresh water supply to the moat.
