Ratinho Junior to leave Paraná governorship for election campaign
Governor Ratinho Junior (PSD) of Paraná has announced he will step down from his position starting Thursday, September 17, to focus on the 2026 election campaign. He intends to support his ally and successor, Sandro Alex (PSD), during the final stretch of the race.
Ratinho Junior stated that the decision is necessary because the campaign schedule is short and he needs to travel the state without the legal limitations imposed by his current office. During his absence, Vice-Governor Darci Piana will assume command of the state.
The move has drawn criticism from political opponents, particularly as Paraná deals with recent heavy rains that affected over 70 cities and impacted more than 20,000 people. Opponents have questioned the timing of the governor's leave amidst the ongoing weather crisis and infrastructure damage.
