Ratko Mladić's family fears he has suffered a third stroke

Darko Mladić, the son of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić, has expressed concerns that his father may have suffered a third stroke while in detention in The Hague. According to Darko Mladić, the 84-year-old former Bosnian Serb military commander is extremely weak and has difficulty speaking, often only managing one or two words at a time.

While prison doctors have reportedly informed the family of changes in his medical treatment and a deterioration in his health, they have not provided a definitive diagnosis regarding a new stroke. The family is preparing for an emergency trip to The Hague to visit him.

Ratko Mladić is serving a life sentence for genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity committed during the Bosnian War, including the Srebrenica massacre and the siege of Sarajevo. A previous request by his legal team to allow him to travel to Serbia for medical treatment was denied in May by Judge Graciela Gati Santana, though the court acknowledged his critical condition.
