Ratlam police arrest three in 55 lakh rupee digital arrest scam

Ratlam police in Madhya Pradesh have uncovered a major cyber fraud case involving a ‘digital arrest’ scam that defrauded a victim of 55 lakh rupees. The victim, a motor parts businessman residing in Ratlam, was targeted by individuals posing as Mumbai Police officers.

The scammers used intimidation tactics, falsely claiming the victim was involved in criminal activities and communications with Pakistan’s ISI. To increase the deception, the perpetrators used WhatsApp video calls featuring individuals in police uniforms and sent forged documents on Supreme Court of India letterheads. Under the threat of legal action, the victim transferred 55 lakh rupees via RTGS to various bank accounts.

Following an investigation by the Ratlam police and cyber cell, three suspects were arrested—two in Hyderabad and one in Dharwad, Karnataka. Authorities have successfully frozen approximately 20 lakh rupees of the defrauded amount.
