Ratos de Porão draws 500 fans at Santo Estêvão concert in Portugal

On 2 August, the Brazilian hardcore punk band Ratos de Porão performed in the village of Santo Estêvão, Tavira municipality, attracting around 500 attendees. The concert was part of the Rock D’Aranha festival, which celebrates punk, rock and protest music, and featured supporting acts Simbiose, Re‑Censurados, Armnatt and Choque Frontal. The event was organized through a partnership between the local cultural association Associação 1597 and the regional promoter Rock da Baixa Mar, aiming to revive cultural activities in the Algarve village.

Ratos de Porão, formed in São Paulo in 1981 during Brazil’s military dictatorship, are regarded as an influential figure in the international hardcore scene, known for their DIY ethos and socially critical lyrics. Their appearance marked a return to the Algarve after a two‑decade hiatus for the Rock D’Aranha series.
