Rattlesnake spotted on Newport Beach sand near water
A rattlesnake was filmed slithering through the sand at Crystal Cove in Newport Beach, an unusual location for the species which typically inhabits drier terrain. Comedian and TV host Nicky Paris captured video of the serpent emerging from the water and moving past his feet on the shoreline. While Paris was not bitten, he has warned beachgoers to remain vigilant as the encounter suggests walking near the water’s edge may no longer be safe.
This incident follows several recent rattlesnake encounters in Southern California. In Los Angeles County, a woman was hospitalized after being bitten in her backyard; the same snake reportedly returned a day later to bite her pet cat. Additionally, a family in Calabasas recently discovered a snake hiding among children's toys in their yard.
