Ratzeburg secures 23.5 million euros for new swimming facility

The city of Ratzeburg has secured up to 23.5 million euros in funding to construct a new, barrier-free indoor swimming facility named Aqua Siwa. This project is intended to replace the existing swimming hall, which is no longer economically viable to operate.

The funding consists of approximately 19 million euros from urban development grants and the state program for the construction of swimming sports facilities, alongside 4.5 million euros from the federal special fund for infrastructure and climate neutrality.

Located on a neighboring plot at the Kleiner Küchensee, the new two-story building will feature a wooden roof and be designed to enhance the local cityscape. Once the old facility is demolished, the site will be integrated into the adjacent Kurpark. Interior Minister Magdalena Finke emphasized that the project is essential for securing swimming instruction and sports provision for the region.
