Raul De Lara debuts woodcarving installation at Hermès Madison Avenue
Mexican-born, Queens-based artist Raul De Lara has unveiled a new woodcarving installation titled ‘The Secret Lives of Objects’ at the Hermès Madison Avenue maison in New York. The installation utilizes wood to explore the intersection of human creation, nature, and architecture, blurring the lines between furniture and fine art.
De Lara’s work focuses on anthropomorphizing everyday objects to examine how they interact with their surroundings and carry symbolic meaning. This project marks a continuation of his collaboration with Hermès, following a 2023 sculptural window installation for the brand’s Aspen boutique. De Lara noted that his recent practice has shifted toward creating immersive environments rather than focusing solely on individual, decontextualized sculptures.
