Raunheim Mayor remains in office after failed recall vote

The attempt to remove Raunheim Mayor David Rendel from office has failed after a referendum failed to meet the legally required quorum. Although a majority of voters supported his removal, the turnout was insufficient, with participation rates between 14.2% and 27.1%. A total of 2,811 votes were cast in favor of removal, falling short of the 3,331 votes required to reach the quorum.

Following the vote, criminal police in Darmstadt launched an investigation after shredded paper fragments and a grey envelope marked ‘Wahlsache’ (election matter) were discovered in trash bags in a basement room at the town hall. The discovery was made by members of the WsR faction while disposing of waste. Authorities are investigating whether these fragments are election documents and if their destruction was an attempt to influence the referendum results. If evidence of tampering is found, the election results may be challenged.
