Ravanusa celebrates Corteo della Madonna del Fico with historical procession
The Corteo della Madonna del Fico in Ravanusa has seen successful participation for its third consecutive year, marking a modern revival of a tradition that was interrupted for over a century. Organized by the local administration in partnership with the ACAMS Association and directed by Andrea Tricoli, the event featured over 120 participants, including knights, archers, falconers, and flag bearers.
The procession commemorates the historical and legendary origins of the cult, which traces back to Count Roger of Hauteville during the Norman conquest of Sicily in 1086. According to tradition, Roger established the Church of Madonna del Fico after finding water under a fig tree following divine guidance during the siege of the Arab fortress at Monte Saraceno.
