Water quality and supply issues reported across Italy
Various water quality and availability issues have been reported across different Italian regions. In Liguria, Legambiente's Goletta Verde monitoring found that one in four tested points exceeded microbiological limits, with the highest contamination levels identified at river mouths, particularly in the Imperia province.
In Sicily, a severe water crisis has led to legal and administrative turmoil. The Mayor of Ravanusa, Salvatore Pitrola, is under investigation for the alleged crime of trading harmful food substances after authorizing the use of the Cianciaramito municipal well for non-potable water distribution during an emergency. Consequently, the well has been seized by Carabinieri, and Pitrola has revoked the emergency ordinance. Meanwhile, in Agrigento, citizens have protested against the ongoing drought, pressuring Mayor Michele Sodano to resolve supply issues and address the needs of residents in areas like Maddalusa.
Other localized incidents include an urgent ordinance in Pontecurone to secure a building's water supply following the discovery of Legionella bacteria, and the restoration of potable water in Aosta after successful sanitation efforts in local reservoirs.
