Ravencoin faces potential three-day reorganization after KAWPOW exploit
Ravencoin is facing a potential three-day blockchain reorganization following the discovery of a critical consensus vulnerability. The flaw allowed attackers to bypass the KAWPOW proof-of-work process by manipulating block header nHeight values, making the creation of malicious blocks significantly cheaper than legitimate mining.
The exploitation was observed between August 7 and August 10. Mining pools 2Miners and RavenMiner are currently working to build a chain that excludes the exploited branch. If this new chain becomes dominant, transactions confirmed after block 4,487,775 may be reversible.
To mitigate the issue, 2Miners released an emergency software patch to reject invalid blocks and establish a checkpoint at block 4,487,775. Ravencoin has advised exchanges to suspend RVN deposits and withdrawals while the network stabilizes and has urged all operators to upgrade their software. The market responded to the uncertainty with a roughly 19% drop in RVN price.
