Ravenna City Council rejects security proposals

The Ravenna City Council has become a site of political tension regarding public safety measures. During a recent session, the center-left majority rejected a series of motions presented by Veronica Verlicchi of La Pigna.

The rejected proposals included several security-focused initiatives, such as establishing decentralized local police outposts in coastal and suburban areas, increasing evening foot patrols, and implementing an organic plan to expand video surveillance. Other measures sought to improve security on public transport, utilize private security within legal limits, and request the deployment of ‘Strade Sicure’ and ‘Stazioni Sicure’ near the station and Giardini Speyer.

Verlicchi defended the proposals against accusations from the majority that the measures aimed to ‘militarize’ the city, noting that only one of the seven motions involved military involvement.
