Ravenna hosts exhibition on Aurisina stone and Adriatic history

The exhibition ‘La Pietra di Aurisina sulle rotte adriatiche’ has opened at Palazzo Rasponi in Ravenna, running through August 31. Promoted by the Gruppo Ermada Flavio Vidonis as part of the ‘Duino Book – Tempus Edax Rerum’ national program, the showcase explores the historical, archaeological, and commercial significance of Aurisina stone.

The exhibition highlights the stone's role as a material link between the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Aquileia and Ravenna. It traces the millenary journey of the stone from the Carso quarries through Adriatic maritime and terrestrial routes, where it was used to construct Roman and late antique monuments, including the Mausoleum of Theodoric in Ravenna.

The presentation utilizes a mix of photography, historical documentation, and artificial intelligence-generated reproductions to narrate the cultural dialogue between the Friuli Venezia Giulia and Emilia-Romagna regions. Massimo Romita, president of Gruppo Ermada Flavio Vidonis, noted that the exhibition aims to illustrate a ‘great cultural route’ that has connected cities, ports, and peoples across the Adriatic for centuries.
