Ravenna nurse faces trial for manslaughter after fatal medication error

A 27-year-old nurse is facing trial for manslaughter in Ravenna following the 2023 death of a 90-year-old patient at the Santa Teresa clinic. Prosecutors allege that a clerical error involving the exchange of medical records led to the patient being administered a potent Fentanyl patch instead of her prescribed Neupro patch for Parkinson’s disease.

The massive dose of Fentanyl reportedly caused the woman to fall into a coma. Although emergency responders administered Naloxone, the patient died a few hours later. The clinic's medical management has reportedly admitted to the exchange of clinical documents.
