Ravenna officials clash over removal of Eni‑Israel poster

In Ravenna, a poster detailing the relationship between Italian energy company Eni and the State of Israel was erected on the walls of a disused newsstand and presented as an artistic installation. The display, organized by the Napoli‑based collective LIBERI Edizioni, drew criticism from the BDS committee and other activists who labeled the act a form of censorship.

The municipal authority Ravenna Entrate covered the poster at night after receiving a directive from the Ravenna Police Headquarters dated 30 June 2026. The city explained that the covering was a temporary technical solution because the original posting lacked proper authorization. Police judicial investigations have been opened to identify the authors of the unauthorised installation. Opposition leader Alvaro Ancisi, head of the Lista per Ravenna group, has questioned the legal basis for both the installation and its removal, demanded greater transparency, and asked why the police, rather than municipal offices, managed the case.
