Italian doctors investigated over migrant detention certificates

The Ravenna Prosecutor's Office is conducting an investigation into health certificates issued to migrants regarding their fitness for detention in Repatriation Centers (CPR). On September 16, police executed personal and domestic searches, as well as digital seizures, targeting 23 medical professionals—including 21 infectious disease specialists and two psychiatrists—across nine Italian cities.

The investigation focuses on whether these certificates were used to improperly prevent the detention of migrants. While the probe includes many professionals, reports indicate that only four doctors are currently under investigation for criminal association aimed at obstructing migrant detention.

Various organizations, including the CNCA and the Tavolo Asilo e Immigrazione, have expressed solidarity with the doctors. They argue that medical professionals must prioritize clinical judgment and human dignity over migration enforcement policies, asserting that doctors should not serve as auxiliary agents for security apparatuses.
