Ravi Karunanayake residence visited by CIABOC after missed summons
Officials from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) visited the residence of former Minister Ravi Karunanayake to attempt an arrest after he repeatedly failed to appear for scheduled summons.
Karunanayake was not at his home during the visit; reports indicate he had traveled to the Nuwara Eliya area. The investigation concerns allegations that several officers recruited to the National Lotteries Board were instead deployed to serve as Karunanayake’s personal staff and for political activities, while the board continued to pay their salaries and allowances.
In connection with this matter, former National Lotteries Board Chairperson Shyamila Perera was previously arrested and later released on bail with a travel ban. Additionally, CIABOC has filed indictments against Karunanayake in the Colombo High Court regarding luxury apartment rent payments made during the period of the 2015 Central Bank bond issuance.
