Ravi Soni's body recovered from Ib River in Odisha

The body of RTI activist Ravi Soni was recovered from the Ib River in the Jharsuguda district of Odisha on Friday. Soni had been missing since Wednesday evening, and his vehicle was previously discovered near a cremation ground along the river.

Soni’s wife, Sunita, has alleged that he was murdered and his body subsequently dumped in the river. She cited visible injury marks on his face, head, hands, and abdomen as evidence of physical assault. Family members also noted that Soni had previously faced assaults and had been vocal in criticizing local political figures, including a minister and a former municipal chairperson.

Police and the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) conducted the recovery operation. Investigators are currently examining Soni’s call records and last known whereabouts to determine if his death was an accident or a homicide. The exact cause of death is pending the results of a post-mortem examination at the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital.
