Ravi Tamta develops HAPIDA SKYNeX electric flying vehicle
Ravi Tamta, a 21-year-old inventor from Uttarakhand, India, has developed a prototype for an electric flying vehicle named the HAPIDA SKYNeX. Developed through his company, Hapida Sky Private Limited, the single-seater vehicle utilizes multi-rotor drone technology to achieve vertical take-off and landing (VTOL), eliminating the need for traditional runways.
Tamta, who lacks a formal engineering degree, spent 13 years teaching himself through online resources and practical experimentation. The project was inspired by the logistical difficulties of navigating mountainous terrain near his home in Kaflikhan, where winding roads can delay access to medical facilities.
The prototype completed its first test flight in August at an Army helipad in Almora, remaining airborne for nearly one minute. While the test was a significant milestone, the vehicle requires further development to ensure flight stability, sufficient battery autonomy, and safety in complex weather conditions and mountainous environments.
