Ravichandran Ashwin discusses Sanju Samson and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi selection battle

Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has commented on the selection competition for India’s T20I opening batting slot. Ashwin noted that Sanju Samson is currently performing well enough to prevent 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi from entering the squad.

Following India’s third T20I against the West Indies in Indore, where India secured a 14-run victory, Ashwin highlighted that the competition is essentially a choice between Samson and Sooryavanshi because Abhishek Sharma is considered an indispensable part of the lineup. Ashwin praised Sharma’s adaptability and ability to score runs on difficult wickets, describing him as a “fabulous player” whose performance graph is steadily rising.

In the third match, Abhishek Sharma top-scored with 69 runs off 30 balls, while Samson contributed three runs off six deliveries. India currently leads the five-match series 2-1.
