Ravichandran Ashwin evaluates Sri Lanka's spin bowling depth

Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has observed that Sri Lanka's spin bowling attack lacks the commanding presence of former left-arm spinner Rangana Herath. Ashwin noted that the island nation has yet to find a bowler capable of replicating the extraordinary impact and match-winning ability Herath provided during his career.

Discussing the upcoming Test series against India, Ashwin identified Prabath Jayasuriya as Sri Lanka’s frontline left-arm option but questioned if his slower pace would trouble the Indian batting lineup, noting that many Indian batters perform well off the back foot. He also referenced other options including Ramesh Mendis and Nishan Peiris.

Ashwin stated, “If Rangana Herath was still there, I would say Sri Lanka have a great chance,” suggesting that the absence of a legendary spinner significantly affects Sri Lanka's competitiveness.
