Rawalpindi and Islamabad restore internet services amid heavy rains
Internet services have been fully restored in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad following a disruption caused by a severed optical fiber cable belonging to a telecommunications operator. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed that mobile data and Wi-Fi services are now functioning normally, noting that the outage was localized and did not affect central or southern regions of the country.
Simultaneously, heavy rainfall in the region has triggered significant logistical challenges. Rising water levels in Nullah Lai have prompted authorities to place rescue and water management agencies on high alert. Heavy machinery has been deployed to manage drainage in low-lying areas, including Liaquat Bagh and Committee Chowk. The downpour has also caused severe traffic congestion on the Islamabad Expressway and various motorways, including the M1 and Hazara Motorway, leading authorities to advise citizens to avoid unnecessary travel.
