Rax mountain search for 18-year-old ends successfully

A large-scale search operation for an 18-year-old woman on the Rax mountain in Austria ended positively after she spent the night in the wilderness. The young woman had lost her way while descending on Sunday and informed her mother that she would likely spend the night in the open.

Emergency services were alerted around 9:30 PM after the woman's mobile phone battery died, preventing further contact. The search involved 35 mountain rescue members, a drone group, a helicopter, a search dog squad, and officers from the police and alpine police.

Following the search efforts, the woman's mother confirmed that her daughter was safe. The 18-year-old had spent the night in a forest a few hundred meters above Knappenhof and successfully hiked down to the valley and toward the Payerbach train station at daybreak.
