Ray Dalio warns of US debt crisis and recommends gold and Bitcoin

Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates, has warned that the United States could face a significant debt crisis within the next three years, plus or minus two years, if current fiscal trends continue. He projects that US national debt could escalate to between $55 trillion and $60 trillion over the next decade.

Dalio highlighted several fiscal pressures, noting that US federal revenue is estimated at $5.5 trillion this year against approximately $7.5 trillion in spending, resulting in a $2 trillion deficit. Furthermore, annual interest payments are expected to reach $1 trillion, and roughly $10 trillion in principal is due for refinancing. He noted that these patterns, including rising yields and weakening demand for Treasuries, align with the debt cycles described in his work.

To hedge against potential currency debasement and loss of confidence in the dollar, Dalio recommends that investors underweight debt-based assets like bonds. Instead, he suggests allocating 10% to 15% of a portfolio to gold and maintaining a small position in Bitcoin as non-government-produced assets.
