Rayko Aleksiev identified as killer of VIS-2 boss Georgi Iliev

Criminal investigators have identified Rayko Aleksiev, known as ‘Kravta’, as the individual responsible for the August 25, 2005, assassination of Georgi Iliev, the 39-year-old leader of the VIS-2 group. Iliev, nicknamed ‘Glavniya’, was shot by a sniper in Sunny Beach while celebrating a football victory.

The motive for the killing is linked to a violent conflict involving Vasil Gorchev, known as ‘Kyoraviya’, who was previously killed in Blagoevgrad. The dispute stemmed from a destroyed amphetamine factory and an unpaid debt of $400,000. Following Gorchev's death, Iliev reportedly targeted Aleksiev in Sofia, accusing him of the execution and dismantling his drug business. Fearing a retaliatory death sentence, Aleksiev allegedly preempted the attack by killing Iliev.

Aleksiev was himself liquidated by the organized crime group a few months later. Investigations into the broader criminal network included efforts in 2013 to link Aleksiev’s father, Vasil Vasilev, to criminal activities, though no evidence was gathered.
