Raymond Depardon honored at Visa pour l’image festival

Renowned photojournalist Raymond Depardon was honored with a Visa d’or d’honneur at the Visa pour l’image festival in Perpignan. The event, which concludes on September 13, features an exhibition of 84 silver gelatin prints at the Église des Dominicains, showcasing his significant body of work characterized by black-and-white, wide-angle photography.

During the festival, Depardon reflected on the evolution of his profession, noting that the golden era of photojournalism in the 1970s and 1980s has passed. He expressed concern regarding the current state of the industry, stating, “Agencies are in crisis and the press no longer buys photos.” Despite these challenges, he offered encouragement to the new generation of photographers.
