Rayo Vallecano fans face bans and fines after match disruption

Spain’s anti-violence commission has proposed stadium bans and significant fines for 12 Rayo Vallecano supporters following a protest that disrupted a La Liga match against Athletic Bilbao on October 10.

The fans threw paper airplanes, rubber balls, and other objects onto the pitch to protest against club president Raúl Martín Presa. The disruptions caused the match to be suspended multiple times. One supporter faces a 5,000 euro fine and a one-year stadium ban, while the remaining 11 face 3,000 euro fines and six-month bans.

The protests occurred at Rayo Vallecano’s stadium in Vallecas, which has faced recent security issues leading to previous matches being moved to Leganés. During the incident, supporters displayed scarves with messages demanding the president’s immediate departure.
