Rayo Vallecano vs. Athletic Bilbao match to resume behind closed doors
The LaLiga match between Rayo Vallecano and Athletic Bilbao will be completed behind closed doors following a decision by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The game, originally played on October 10, was permanently abandoned in the 24th minute with the score tied at 0-0 due to repeated incidents of fans throwing objects onto the pitch.
Spectators threw items including paper airplanes, small plastic balls, and bottles, primarily from the stand located above the dressing room tunnel. Although no players or officials were injured, the referee was forced to pause the match twice. National Police determined that safety could not be guaranteed after a new incident occurred just 16 seconds after play had resumed.
The remaining portion of the match will resume from the point of interruption, with 20 minutes and 44 seconds left in the first half and the entire second half to be played. LaLiga will coordinate with the National Police to determine the date, time, and venue for the resumption. As the host club responsible for stadium security, Rayo Vallecano will be required to cover the travel expenses for the Athletic Bilbao squad.
