Raytheon prepares relaunch of MALD decoy systems for NATO allies
Raytheon, a subsidiary of RTX, is preparing to relaunch the Miniature Air-Launched Decoy (MALD) system to meet demand from the United States and NATO allies. The technology is designed to complement air defense by mimicking the radar signature of military aircraft, thereby confusing enemy radar systems and drawing fire away from actual fighters, drones, and munitions.
The MALD system features a range of approximately 500 nautical miles (926 kilometers) and weighs less than 136 kilograms. A specific variant, the MALD-J, includes electronic jamming capabilities to further interfere with enemy radar. These decoys are intended to neutralize or degrade integrated air defenses, allowing allied assets to operate near threats with reduced risk. Initial deliveries could potentially occur within two years of contract awards.
