Razi University Hospital Alzheimer's Center receives WHO accreditation

The Alzheimer's Center at Razi University Hospital in Manouba has officially received accreditation from the World Health Organization (WHO) to serve as a regional collaborative center for the Eastern Mediterranean region. This designation recognizes the center's expertise in medical training, scientific research, and the development of prevention protocols for neurocognitive diseases, including dementia.

Dr. Riadh Gouider, head of the neurology department, noted that this accreditation follows a decade of technical cooperation with the WHO. The center currently provides clinical follow-up for approximately 9,000 patients. Experts estimate that between 50,000 and 70,000 people in Tunisia are affected by Alzheimer's, driven in part by the country's high life expectancy.

Health Minister Mustapha Ferjani stated that the recognition highlights Tunisian medical competence and will help strengthen national and regional health services. Current screening and care capacities are estimated to cover only 20% of the actual needs of the population.
