Rábano Mayor Juan García Benito intends to run for re-election in 2027

Juan García Benito, the 91-year-old Socialist mayor of Rábano in Valladolid, Spain, has expressed his intention to run for re-election in the May 2027 municipal elections. Currently serving his fourth term, Benito first took office in 2007, took a four-year hiatus, and returned to the mayoralty in 2023.

In a video shared by the provincial PSOE organization, Benito discussed his future with Francisco Ferreira, the party's provincial Secretary of Organization. Benito, who will be 92 at the time of the next election, stated that he is willing to remain in office until he is 96. He emphasized that being mayor at his age is a great satisfaction, provided one maintains the mental capacity to continue, and encouraged older individuals to keep moving forward.
