RBI reports 20.6% balance‑sheet expansion and sharp rise in industrial loans

The Reserve Bank of India said its balance sheet grew 20.6% in the fiscal year 2025‑26, reaching 91.97 lakh crore rupees. The increase was driven by higher domestic investment, gold holdings and foreign investment, with assets and liabilities both rising substantially. Gold holdings rose to 880.52 metric tonnes and the surplus at year‑end was 2.87 lakh crore rupees.

Separate RBI data showed that loans to the industrial sector surged 15.1% year‑on‑year in April 2026, far above the 7% growth a year earlier. Overall non‑food bank credit rose 15.8% YoY, while loans to agriculture and allied activities grew 13.7%. Service‑sector credit rose 18.6%, personal loans 16%, and vehicle and housing loans continued strong, with credit‑card balances easing.
