Órbigo students learn about water management and hop farming

Approximately one hundred students from four educational centers in the Órbigo region participated in an educational program organized by the Sindicato Central del Embalse de Barrios de Luna. The initiative, known as the II Aula Itinerante sobre el Ciclo del Agua, aimed to teach children about water management and the importance of irrigation for local agriculture.

The students visited the Barrios de Luna reservoir, where they explored the interior galleries of the dam and observed the water levels. Following the reservoir visit, the group traveled to the Lúpulos Alonso facilities in Gavilanes de Órbigo. There, they learned about the production process of hops, a characteristic crop of the region, including harvesting, drying, and packaging.

The event was supported by local authorities and organizations, including the Duero Hydrographic Confederation and various municipal governments, to foster an understanding of the link between water resources and the local agricultural economy.
